Understanding
What do interactions with AI reveal about people?
I investigate how people make sense of conversational AI, what they expect from it, and how interacting with these systems shapes their perceptions and decisions. My research examines how AI personality, empathy, and context influence trust, judgment, and human values, revealing what people need from AI across different situations.
How can we translate human insights into interactive systems?
Creating
I translate these insights into conversational AI systems that people can experience and use. From tools for exploring AI personalities to voice agents supporting learning, wellbeing, and healthcare, my lab builds and deploys interactive systems that respond to real human needs and the practical demands of different contexts.
Refining
How can we improve the way conversational AI is designed and evaluated?
I develop new approaches to designing, understanding, and evaluating conversational AI. This includes participatory design methods, context-sensitive personas, and techniques for examining underlying model behavior. Together, these efforts help us understand how conversational systems should behave across different people, tasks, and situations.
